Rah Rah & Library Voices!
With all the musical creativity that’s been oozing out of our city lately, Montrealers have good reason to turn up their noses and revel in the elitist snobbery of living in a town that’s produced the likes of Les Breastfeeders, Plants and Animals, Duchess Says, Land of Talk, Miracle Fortress, Lovely Feathers, Malajube, and Patrick Watson ( I’m not even gonna insult your haughty expertise by mentioning Arcade Fire or Wolf Parade).
Well, it looks like Montreal’s not the only Canadian hotbed for music. Library Voices and Rah Rah are two bands hailing from Regina, SK and making a name for themselves nationally. Library Voices is a ten-piece pop collective who’ve already released an EP called Hunting Ghosts & Other Collected Shorts and played at major festivals (like Sled Island) since forming in the spring of this year. They were also featured in the October issue of SPIN’s Three Undiscovered Bands You Need To Hear Now. They use unique instruments like the glockenspiel, and with their brand of chirpy melodies and lyrics laden with literary references, could be the Canadian version of Vampire Weekend.
Library Voices
Rah Rah sparked some buzz with their out-of-town debut at Pop! Montreal in 2006 and are now set to release their first full-length Going Steady this November. Their fresh rock sound recalls The Weakerthans and Broken Social Scene.
Rah Rah
This is truly genuine, unpretentious rock sung by down-to-earth college kids. Their band is not to be confused with New York-based preppy rockers Ra Ra Riot. Both Library Voices and Rah Rah are on the Regina-based Young Soul label. Library Voices will stop over in Montreal to play Zoobizarre next Thursday, November 27th. Check ‘em out.

Only someone from Montreal would find Ra Ra unpretentious.
