Hush, Hush!

Published by AnnA under News

300×300.jpgNow touring in support of their newest LP HUSH, shoe-gazing dream pop duo Asobi Seksu will play Sala Rossa on Monday, March 2nd.   The core band consists of Yuki Chikudate (vocals, keyboards) and James Hanna (guitar).  The New York-based duo enlist the help of their friends on drums and bass. A bit art-punk, and a bit dream pop, Chikudate’s doll-like voice conjures up Deerhoof’s Satomi Matsuzaki.  Asobi Seksu is blissful, sweet, and ethereal pop. It’s hook-filled shoe-gaze at its finest.    It’s chimey, whimsical, and otherwordly.  I’m running out of adjectives, so check it out for your own bad selves.  I will say that listening to HUSH is like walking through a misty forest bathed in dark blue light.  There’s white unicorns swiftly running by, with transparent white veils flowing behind them.  It’s also like a hilltop dance by the moonlight.  The songs are dainty and pretty.  It’s being pegged as a mix of the Cocteau TwinsArcade Fire, and Blonde Redhead.Their previous releases include the self-titled 2004 debut and Citrus, released in 2006.  Come out and play with them.  It’ll be casual and fun!

Welcome To Thailand!

Published by AnnA under News

thailand-mini.jpg Came across these guys recently - and instantly predicted an ensuing label war.  Thailand is an LA-based trio, who have mixed the flamboyance of David Bowie, with a touch of Velvet Underground snappy, a slew of jangly sixties, and the biggest pop/punk beats of the eighties to create catchy songs that don’t try to impress - they just do.  And they do it well.  Striking the perfect balance between enthusiasm and restraint, Thailand recently released their EP The Remote Controller Absorbs The Place.  Their debut 2007 full-length was titled Motorcade.  They were also featured in SPIN as one of Three Undiscovered Bands You Need To Hear Now.

Flight Of The Conchords North American Tour Presale

Published by brockmasterflex under News

Flight Of The Conchords

U.S. cult hit television show “Flight of the Conchords” follows the travails of a marginally talented musical duo from New Zealand trying to make it in New York City, but in reality the pair are far from struggling.Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie already have one Grammy, have been nominated for another and the second series of their Emmy-nominated show returned to HBO cable network this month after an absence of more than a year.

James Bobin, co-creator and executive producer, said the second series was delayed by the 14-week writers strike, which ended in February last year, and “the boat to New Zealand,” chimed in McKenzie at the show’s red carpet launch this week.

McKenzie, 32, and Clement, 35, university friends who formed “Flight of the Conchords” a decade ago to improve their guitar skills, said they set out to make a “funny and musical” TV show and that creating the second series was a little easier.

“When we first started we didn’t know what we were doing,” said Clement. “We watched lots of sitcoms on video because we had never written one, none of us had written one before.” [Reuters]
