Wooly Weekend Is A Week Away!

Published by brockmasterflex under MP3s, News

Wooly Weekend Montreal

The first ever (and hopefully not the last) Wooly Weekend will be going down next Thursday at Theatre Plaza . Teenbeat Takeover has been working night and day for months to get this festival together and for that I’m personally thankful. The garage rock / power pop scene would never have voice in Montreal if it wasn’t for these hard working individuals, lets get out a support rock and fucking roll! Advance tickets are still available here.

Here are some samples of the jams you’ll be hearing next week:

MP3
The Electric Prunes - I Had Too Much To Dream

The Gruesomes - Jack The Ripper

Fortune & Maltese And The Phabulous Pallbearers - Gone Gone Gone

Question Mark and The Mysterians - Tears

The Hypstrz - Shake

The Flakes - Back To School

The Higher State - Not This Time (My Friend)

Reminder: Black Lips August 8th (NEW Video!)

Published by brockmasterflex under Videos, News

Black Lips @ Cabaret Juste Pour August 8th, Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Just a friendly reminder that the Black Lips will be destroying the Cabaret Juste Pour August 8th with local boys Bloodshot Bill and Demon’s Claws! You can pick up tickets for the show here. Also, there is a new video for Drugs (From 200 Million Thousand [Vice Records]):

From VBS.TV:

Atlanta bubblegum-garage rockers The Black Lips recently fired up their email machine to find a fan-made video for 200 Million Thousand stand-out “Drugs” awaiting them. Like the unsolicited clip for Good Bad Not Evil’s “Bad Kids” — a sly vid that juxtaposed images from The Troubles in Northern Ireland with a bouncing-ball onscreen display of the song’s anarchic lyrics — “Drugs” finds footage from cautionary 70’s Health Class videos playing behind the band’s celebration of youthful hedonism. The Lips gave an eager NME the chance to run the clip early last week. Somehow they already considered it controversial. Guess that’s just par for the course with these guys.

I’ve been listening to the WAVVES record all summer and every time I hear someone bash on Nathan I think that you have to give that man credit for making an solid album even though he acts like a major douche sometimes. I also feeling bad that Pitchfork raises him with one hand and fucks him with the other. Take that with what you will, both of these shows have excellent potential.

WAVVES tickets here and I expect same for Titus Andronicus later this week.

Frightened Rabbit Antlers

Published by AnnA under News

hospice.jpg What could be better on a lazy summer day than the gentle crooning of soft, breezy tunes?  You guessed it - nothing.  A close second is The Antlers touring in support of their latest album Hospice.  Fresh off signing to Frenchkiss and issuing a second pressing of their album, summer is looking good for these three Brooklyn-ites.

…AND… Frightened Rabbit is hopping over all the way from Scotland to complete the animal theme for the night.  They just played @ the Pitchfork Music Festival, btw.

This is sure to be a jangly, surf-poppy kind of night.  It all goes down on Thursday, July 23rd at Le Petit Campus.

Rome Romeo / Red Mass / Obits TONIGHT @ Il Motore

Published by brockmasterflex under News

Rome Romeo / Red Mass / Obit TONIGHT @ Il Motore

If you have a brain in your head your plan tonight is to be at Il Motore. I’m currently brainless and vacationing in Newfoundland (which by the way is tropical compared to Mtl as of late). Its an all star lineup tonight with Obits (fronted by ex-Hot Snakes/Drive Like Jehu, Rick Froberg), local garage collective Red Mass and “new” band Rome Romeo who I’d like to talk a little more about today.

Rome Romeo was formed in 2007 after the demise of beloved No Idea Record’s punk band ‘Fifth Hour Hero’. Along with members from acclaimed Quebec bands ‘Le Nombre’ and ‘Les Marmottes Aplaties’, Rome Romeo set out to write their first six songs in the fall of 2008. The self-titled e.p. features five of these songs and is to be released on Montreal based record label: Machette Records.  Mixing a blend of punk, soul and indie, Rome Romeo defy the genres that they were once held to, and showcase their hook-ridden talent on their e.p., destined to be the soundtrack of summer. Choice song: “Lose Your Head”.

Rome Romeo will be playing their first/album lauch show tonight. The EP is available at local record stores and iTunes NOW! If you want to get a good listen to the EP head over to RR’s myspace where its streaming for FREE.

If you don’t have tickets for the show tonight GET THEM!

For more show info check out the Facebook event.

Osheaga Update: Beastie Boys tour postponed

Published by brockmasterflex under News

Beastie Boys will miss Osheaga

From Static Blog:

Beastie Boys’ Adam Yauch was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in his
left salivary gland last week. The growth was caught early, localized
in a small area and is considered treatable, but to allow for full
recovery, tour dates and the release of Hot Sauce Committee Part One have been postponed.

“I just need to take a little time to get this in check, and then
we’ll release the record and play some shows. It’s a pain in the neck
(sorry, had to say it) because I was really looking forward to playing
these shows, but the doctors have made it clear that this is not the
kind of thing that can be put aside to deal with later,” Yauch said in
a statement.

We in the Staticblog community hope MCA enjoys a strong bounce back from this, and that the release can get back on track soon.

Check Osheaga on Twitter for update info.

Pixies reunion may come to Montreal…. “maybe”

Published by brockmasterflex under MP3s

Pixies announce North American tour. Montreal stop?

So The Pixies (you know that band that plays that song at the end of Fight Club?) have reunited and planned an European tour celebrating the 20th anniversary of Doolittle. And it turns out that a North American tour is in the works and Montreal was mentioned….From Pitchfork

Americans who felt left out of that party can now rest easy. Frontman Frank Black/Black Francis tells Spin that the Pixies will bring their Doolittle tour to North America. He even names the cities on the itinerary: Oakland, Los Angeles, Seattle, Denver, Chicago, Boston, D.C., New York, “maybe Montreal”. They’ve even got a hometown venue more or less locked down: “I believe we’re doing the Wang Center in Boston,” says Black. No dates have been confirmed yet.

Fingers crossed!
