The band formed in the summer of 2009 and is comprised of KC Spidle (The Hold, Attack Mode, Dog day, Husband & Knife) on guitars and vocals, Evan Cardwell (Secret Colours, Husband & Knife) on bass and vocals and Meg Yoshida on drums. After just a few months of rocking together (and training Meg how to drum) they have crafted this short but driving ep which they have released on their own “Brotherhood’ label. This collection of songs may bring to mind bands like Husker Du, Eric’s Trip and Ramones. If you’re into walls of guitar, pounding bass chords, primal bashing and sweet harmonies than you just might dig this. Expect a new 7 inch on Sewercide Records in the spring and a tour to follow.
I’ve had Bad Vibrations self titled album on repeat over the course of last week. In 20 minutes these guys pump out some great music reminiscent of days of Fuck Armageddon This Is Hell.

Check out Cymbals Eat Guitars throw down of Elliot Smith’s “Ballad of Big Nothing”. The Either/Or cover will be released as the b-side off their upcoming “Wind Pheonix” single on Memphis Industries. It’s more true than one would expect from the Staten islanders, though much thicker. All in all, worth a listen. You can catch Cymbals Eat Guitars live in Montrel at Il Motore April 7th with Bear In Heaven and Freelance Whales, get your tickets here.

Most have you been busy (and maybe frustrated) watching CTV’s lame coverage of the 2010 Olympics happening on the west side of the country. You were probably so busy that you missed the debut of the much anticipated new video from Diamond Rings. Diamond Rings stole the hearts of the blogosphere last year with the infectious pop hit “All Yr Songs” [download below]. This new track, “Wait & See”, is slowed down and has a bigger sound compared to its counterpart but is a continued step in the right direction. The Janet Jackson inspired video can be viewed below [via P4K].
Diamond Rings - Watch & See
John O’Regan, the man behind the blue eye shadow will be releasing this single on a limited edition 7″ from Tomlab. A interesting cover of Sebadoh’s “On Fire” can be found on the B-side (preorder it here). Expect the debut album titled, Special Affections, sometime later this year. But if you can’t wait for the new single, fret not, there maybe copies available at the Diamond Rings/Owen Pallet show here in Montreal next weekend Saturday, February 20th at Theatre Outremont. Get you tickets here.

There’s this band from Worcester Mass that you have to hear! Golden Girls are fully fuckin’ loaded and ready to slay. These young, poor, Dinosaur Jr lovin’ shred heads sent me a few tracks that they recorded in a friends bedroom that I have to share. Don’t let the “lo-fi” production fool you, they are not going for that easy money “lo-fi” sound (not that there’s anything wrong with that) they are just broke. They’ve got a more “hi-fi” 7″ coming out in March, but for now check out ‘16Candles’. Ranks high on the riffibility scale.

Vancouver duo Japandroids have had a real busy 2009. Post-Nothing was all over the year end lists whilst King and Prowse hit the road hard. Don’t expect a new album this year, HOWEVER there is a singles collection coming out.
via P4K
Throughout 2010, they’ll release five 7″ singles, each limited to 2000 copies. (They’ll also be for sale as digital downloads, so don’t bug out if you don’t order your copies in time.)
Each single will include two songs: One unreleased jam from the Post-Nothing sessions and one cover. The first of those singles, out April 13 on Polyvinyl, will pair the Japandroids joint “Art Czars” with a cover of Big Black’s pigfuck classic “Racer X” on one clear vinyl platter.
Pre-order here.
The first single from the Post-Nothing sessions is ‘Art Czars’. Its nothing new, but it packs a punch.

killrockstar’s darlings The Thermals released an “Olympic anthem” for Canada today. As a Canadian I’m embarrassed out of my snowshoes. This song belongs in a bad Molson Canadian commercial where a bunch of dudes in popped collars high five and bump chests for 3 minutes.

Baltimore’s Beach House have just put out an album that will top many year end lists come December. I’ve been listening to haze-pop masterpiece, Teen Dream, for a few weeks and falling in love with ‘10 Mile Stereo’ more with each play.
A week ago Toronto fuzz punks Little Girls took it upon themselves to record a cover of 10 Mile Stereo. The cover doesn’t lose the beauty, and it doesn’t lose the atmosphere. Beach House is Jack Nicholson and Little Girls is Heath Ledger and ‘10 Mile Stereo’ is The Joker. Both great, both different.

Blue Skies Turn Black are bringing Beach House to Montreal. March 29th at La Sala Rossa, you can get tickets here.
