Nightwood’s latest release Carta Marina never got enough love from me last year. The Newfoundlander in me bleeds that record. Images of sunken mountains and white caps on the horizon brings a tear to my eye. Tonight Nightwood will be playing The Green Room with Distant Shores and Murder Ford Monument, a night not to be missed at the low low price of a Wilfrid Laurier. Until tonight, let’s get a cup of coffee, sit back and listen to my personal favorite jam from Carta Marina,

Woo. Ok. Long night. Can’t really think straight. I can only see red, blue and white. I need something to get my mind off the coming Wednesday night. I think I need some rock and roll. This need is in perfect sync with Harlem playing the Green Room tonight. Local rock and rollers Devil Eyes will be opening the show, I for one am a little embarrassed knowing nothing of them. Check out these two diddies from Devil Eye’s self-titled full length (courtesy of Signed By Force Records) and make plans to get to the Green Room tonight. The weather might be shit but the music will be killer.

Fucked Up are preparing two 12″s to be released this year, Year of the Tiger and Year of the Ox. When will they be available for sale? Who knows. Fucked Up are masters vague information. Friday they gave away a new track, “Here Lies Are”. Is it going to be a single? Who knows. For a new record? Beats me. One thing for certain, it rips.

Cove was awesome last night. I love Dead Wife, I can’t repeat this enough.
Pick up the new D.W.S.Y.H.F 7″ at Psychic Handshake Records.

Totally forgot about this stacked release party tonight at the Cove. Garage punks Grand Trine are releasing a new EP on Divorce Records entitled Sunglasses while Dead Wife will be releasing a new 7″ on Psychic Handshake/No Vacation. Do yourself a favor and get down to Friendship Cove tonight and get your brains blown.

![[mp3] Archers - Brussels Truffels](http://www.trendwhore.ca/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/archers.jpg)
My inbox gets clogged with shit daily. Mainly French DJ remixes from PR firms that have never read a word of this blog. Because of this I may neglect some email from great bands (please don’t stop emailing, unless you represent a French DJ).
Portland’s lo-fi/rawkers/ramblers/pulsers Archers got a hold of me. They didn’t tell me much besides their love of lyrics, Pavement and bizarre timings. So I played “Brussels Truffles” though once, then twice, then thrice. It’s got a nostalgic vibe that I dig and a pop that won’t go away. But don’t take my word for it.
I’m sure this is how the late 90’s should have sounded.

… way to make me hate myself Chris.
The new Broken Social Scene song (and album) sucks.

![[mp3] Distant Shores | “Breathing”](http://www.trendwhore.ca/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/distant_shores.jpg)
While doing everything in my power to be unproductive I’ve stumbled on to a blog written by Distant Shores, a Hamilton/Montreal outfit specializing in creating the finest enchanting bedroom pop you’ll hear today. The blog documents all the recordings of what appears to be a one man band and his ever persistent love for musical experimentation. Below is a track from Shore’s latest album Suggestion which is available in full on his blog. After you soak ‘Breathing’ in I encourage you to check out the rest of the growing catalog and see the magic one can make with little genius and a Tascam 4-track cassette recorder.
REMINDER: Distant Shores will be playing with Murder Ford Monument and Nightwood at the Green Room April 30th. This show is STACKED.

![[mp3] Woods - Blood Dries Darker](http://www.trendwhore.ca/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/woods-at-echo-lake-cover-art.jpg)
Woods will be following up last years stunning Songs of Shame May 11th with At Echo Lake on Woodsist. You might remember that last month I posted “I Was Gone”, a great first taste from the upcoming album. Well feast your ears on this gothly titled track, “Blood Dries Darker”. It sounds less muddy and has a little more work on the production side of things, but fear not woodsies this is a sweet jam.

![[mp3] Harlem - Be Your Baby](http://www.trendwhore.ca/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/harlem.jpg)
There are days when I take long walks, long walks for which no music will suffice. I try to find it on my digital music device to no avail. For years in my head I made up different genres of music for long walks where the actual music didn’t exist. Sometimes those longs walks are horrible, sometimes those walks are boring, but sometimes those walks are a rollicking good time. Unbeknownst to Tucson-come-Austin’s Harlem, they took that ‘rollicking good time’ music that only existed in my head and put it on wax.
Go out to a record store, find Free Drugs ;-) and/or Hippies, listen to it, fall in love with music again and get a ticket for Harlem’s show (here) at the Green Room April 27th and have a rollicking good time with yours truly.

Tomorrow is Record Store Day! Pitchfork has an excellent guide to releases which you should read and print off here. Personally, I’ll be on the look out for ‘We Fun: Atlanta GA Inside/Out’ doc, new 12″ from the Black Keys and the Dum Dum Girls/Male Bonding split 7″. Head over to the official Record Store Day website to find out what local stores are participating, for Canada click here. I’ll be haunting Phonopolis (15% off sale, deets here), SOUNDCENTRAL and Beatnick, hopefully I’ll see you out there.
Supporting local record stores makes you fucking awesome!

![[mp3] DOM - Bochicha](http://www.trendwhore.ca/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/dom.jpg)
Worcester Massachusetts is a boiling pot of rad music! I’ve spoken about Golden Girls recently but have you heard of DOM? P4K did an excellent/hilarious interview with the mysterious leader yesterday that’s worth a read.
My favorite highlight:
Pitchfork: What is your song “Bochicha” about?
D: Bochicha is the name of my cat. He’s a mix between an African Savannah cat and a Norwegian forest cat. They’re generally illegal in most states because they’re so violent. There were some cases back in the 80s with them eating babies or something. But Bochicha is a party animal. He doesn’t hurt anybody. He’s great. Don’t fuck with him though.
Also, “Bochicha” is the official face-off anthem of the Worcester Sharks.
Pitchfork: What’s that?
D: Are you kidding me?! The Worcester Sharks! American Hockey League champions!
Pitchfork: How did you get that to be their face-off song?
D: We sent an e-mail and they got back to us. They were like, “Thanks for reaching out. We can really make some magic with this. Let’s see how the audience reacts.” Now it’s like “Hey! Bochicha!” and everybody just goes wild. [Editor’s note: According to a representative from the Worcester Sharks, they do not play “Bochicha” at their games.]
Speaking of hockey, how about them Habs last night?
